Right One Awards

Right Coast Reps, Paul and Debbie Hoffman
presented a Right One award to Bill Steele.
Here is Bill's story:
The car was purchased new in 1936 from the Buick dealership in Lake George
by Rose and Ruben Hammond. Around the late 1970's Rose stopped driving
and sold the car to Clark Orton of Warrensburg and Lake George. I purchased
the car in 1980 from Clark for $5,564.00 The original selling price in 1936 was
$900.00. I have the bill of sale when the Hammonds purchased the car in August
of 1936. The car has 78,300 original miles. Mrs Hammond passed away in June
of 2008 at the age of 106. I have photo's of her standing next to the car when it was
finished. Our neighbor Nuccio Di Ciccio worked on the mechanics for over twenty
years before retiring. About seven yrs ago my dad passed away and Pat and I
decided to restore the car better to its original condition. That is why I have
THKS2DAD license plate. Randy and Pat at the D&R body shop in Pottersville
did the off the frame restoration. They had the car for over two years to complete
the project. But I wasn't in any hurry. They work on the car during the slow times
of the year. I have a complete photo album of the restoration project. After the
re-assembly, the car was on its way to Schroon lake to Gary Eagan for new
upholstery. We matched the pattern of material from Hampton Coach Company.
I drive the car throughout the summer to DEC on Green island. In the winter the
car is stored in a heated garage that has three inches of insulation on the floor
and walls. Then the floor is covered with wall to wall carpet. The temperature
of the garage never drops below 55 degrees. So that is the history of this local
Lake George car. Hope you enjoy this summer and many happy and
safe miles cruising. - Bill Steele
