Boy I didn't see any disrespect on Sun. Early in the AM myself and a friend were looking for a spot to get away from the upcoming " 'cuse weather " and pulled onto the Toyota bldg. ramp and asked if there was a remote possibility of parking inside since I has seen so many cars on the Thruway that were NOT taking the Fairgrounds exit and were obviously heading home.
At first I was looked at oddly by the women guarding the door and laughingly told no! But, after mentioning I was a RC club member, a gentleman in one of those "Yellow" shirts said he had knowledge that four of his club members were not coming back, it would be OK if I brought my '63 Damler SP-250 in and park in a vacant club place. I asked since there were 4 spaces, would it be OK for my friend to bring his '63 Bel Aire in also (kinda had him where he couldn't say no,) but he readily and cheerfully agreed. My friend was the youngest participating owner two yrs. ago.
Many, many, thanks to him, (sorry to have lost your name sir, so many people that day) and his club again for extending the privilege from both Mike and myself.
Others who came in later seeking the same favor were less lucky and turned away for some reason. The place had less than 30-40 cars in it the whole day and extending a "welcome" to cars that were not part of the "RESERVED for SPECIAL CLUBS" groups would have gone a long way promoting goodwill to other maverics like myself. We all think as highly about our cars as formal clubs do of their rides and would appreciate similar accomodations were it at all possible.
I did see Aarons car, I was parked 20' from it all day and it was taken to the nines as far as customizing and all possible modifications, the work and hours it must have taken, one offs everywhere. And it drew constant attention from those who came into the bldg. But like many others I too thought it out of place w/the spiirit of the show being classics and hotrods 25yrs and older. It would have been better placed at SEMA or an equivilent hi-end show. It is a stunning car to say the least. His display state of the art. Nice ride Aaron! Tres kule!
By the way what the hell are those damn ptcruisers doing at the show in reserved club spaces if Aarons car and the like can't be there? Tell me, when did they go into production again ?????? Not in the true spirit of the Nats' in any "fashion". (ha, ha) Do you just have to be some sort of a club?
Thats just crap, sure ain't nothing classic or hot rod about them at all , just a bunch of cutsie poo!!! Guess you just might have to "KNOW" somebody, ya think? (Sorry, my rant)
Overall, I thought it another great show and with the courtesy extended to me on Sun. that made it even better. I went back into the bldg. immediately after the car drawing, which I again didn't win, when I saw the continuous lighhtening flashes and giant micro burst heading directly at the line of exiting cars. Stayed in the bldg another hour or so till it all had passed talking cars with many others who sought similar refuge.
Didn't get wet till I was three lights from home.
Save me a space next year my friend, please.
Bud ,
that "other" SP-250
